Project Overview
HYT Engineering Co. Pvt Ltd extended their technical support for the maintenance of the CNC Underfloor Wheel Lathe Machine. Repair and inspection activities were carried out in March 2022 as part of their continued service commitment.
Cost & Special Contribution
- Although the estimated value of the repair project was LKR 7.5 million, HYT Engineering Co. Pvt Ltd carried out the full repair work free of charge, honoring their long-term commitment to after-sales service and support for Sri Lanka Railways.
Key Achievements & Outcome
- Successfully restored full functionality of the underfloor wheel lathe.
- Ensured minimal downtime for Sri Lanka Railways’ wheel maintenance operations.
- Strengthened collaboration between Sri Lankan and Indian engineering teams.
- Delivered the project with zero cost to the client, thanks to HYT’s goodwill and
technical support.
Scope of Work
1.Joint Diagnostic Inspection
• On-site assessment conducted by HYT and Mermaid Solutions engineers to identify
the root cause of the control system malfunction.
2.Control System Restoration
• Replacement of one defective Siemens NCU card for the CNC Underfloor Wheel Lathe
(SRS/F/7077).
• Replacement of one defective collet (87.1010.05C) and one kept in spare for CNC
Vertical Turret Lathe (SRS/F/7415).
• Inspection of Siemens CF Card for CNC Underfloor Wheel Lathe
3. Operational Testing & Commissioning
• Full testing of the repaired equipment with live stock wheels.
• Reprogramming and recalibration.
• Operator training provided to Sri Lanka Railways staff.
4.Inspection of Additional Machines
• CNC Vertical Turret Lathe – SRS PO No. SRS/F/7415
• CNC Surface Wheel Lathe Machine – SRS PO No. SRS/F/7104
• CNC Underfloor Wheel Lathe – SRS PO No. SRS/F/7077
Completion Status
As of 16 March 2022, all machines were working satisfactorily. The machine is now fully operational at the Dematagoda Workshop, and Sri Lanka Railways has resumed standard maintenance activities. Mermaid Solutions Pvt Ltd remains available to provide future support as required
